MITC KICKSTARTS MALAWI EXPORTERS AWARDS

Summary

The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry held Topic based Panel Discussions and Product Exhibitions at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) from 5th to 6th April, 2023. This marks the beginning of the inaugural 2023 Malawi Exporters Awards (MEA) which will be followed by an Awards Gala Dinner.

INAUGURAL 2023 MALAWI EXPORTERS AWARDS IN THE LIMELIGHT

 

The first part of the inaugural 2023 Malawi Exporters Awards (MEA) was held at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) from 5th to 6th April, 2023. The lined-up activities for the Exporter’s Awards were Panel Discussions which will be followed by an Awards Gala Dinner at an opportune time. The event was graced by Honourable Minister of Trade and Industry, Simplex Chithyola-Banda.

 

Held under the theme: “Rewarding Excellence, Unlocking Global Exports,” the main objective of the Exporters Awards Conference was to contribute towards increasing through awareness creation and building export readiness by, among others, raising awareness of services and goods export potential; sharing export opportunities with the business community; and increasing awareness of government policies and strategies to grow Malawi’s exports.

 

The Panel Discussions focused on challenges and solutions to improve exports in Malawi. The topics included alternative sources of forex generation, development of Mega Farms to address supply side constraints, financing opportunities for Malawi exports; and opportunities and challenges for Malawi in African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

 

Moreover, the forum mapped the way forward and made recommendations for the identified challenges.
